Historical Origins

The roots of Royal Warrants stretch back to the Middle Ages, when tradespeople were granted royal charters for their guilds, later known as livery companies. There is evidence to show that during the 17th and 18th centuries, the Crown’s suppliers included unique roles like Haberdasher of Hats, Pin Maker, Mole Taker, and Rat Catcher.

Over time, this practice has evolved into a formal system, solidifying the bond between the Monarchy and its trusted suppliers through the issuance of Warrants.

Longevity and Legacy

Nowadays, Royal warrants are reviewed by the Royal Household Warrants Committee, who meet annually to decide whether the quality and supply of the product are of a suitable standard for the current Royal Household. The main objective of the association is to ensure the continued existence of the Royal Warrant as a treasured and respected institution. It also advises members on everything to do with their Royal Warrants, from correctly implementing the Lord Chamberlain’s rules to networking with other Warrant-holders at social and business events.
